We’ve seen many clips featuring airline baggage handlers who, unfortunately, are caught being less-than-respectful with passengers and their luggage. But here’s something you may not be aware of, as it usually happens behind the scenes, and if this doesn’t make you tear up, nothing will. A very special piece of luggage came through this airport, and the handlers knew just what it was, and as they do each time they see this, they paid their respects to this soldier.
Meet a group of airline employees and baggage handlers — known as the Delta Honor Guard — at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. They gather on the tarmac as the bodies of a Fallen Soldier, and his K9 arrive home. The Honor Guard holds a ceremony as the caskets are transferred onto the plane. As you watch the video, notice the people watching in awe from inside the terminal above.
The smaller coffin is the soldier’s K9 partner who was trained in IEDs. The Delta Honor Guard conducts a handful of these ceremonies each week, on arriving or departing flights. Sometimes, the casket is connected to another Delta flight, where it leaves for its final destination.
Thank you, Delta, for the respect you continue to show to these Fallen Heroes. Your courtesy, respect, and honor are deeply respected and appreciated.
