A man has been slammed over his ‘cruel’ method to stop strangers from walking across his lawn.
It’s almost always annoying when a kid runs across your property to retrieve their ball or when the mailman takes a shortcut to your mailbox.
But most people tend to deal with inconveniences like these without taking drastic measures to prevent them from happening.
One man, however, has irked people on social media by explaining how he stops strangers from walking across his lawn.
The video has gone viral and the method he chose to keep people off his property has been branded ‘cruel’ by viewers.
Thomas Lyons, who posts on TikTok under the username @tgunz81, uploaded a video showing people walking across his grass – and it’s fair to say that viewers are divided on the unique and, let’s face it, pretty harsh anti-trespass method.
Some viewers claim that the homeowner is entitled to use his property however he likes, but others are furious, claiming he’s ‘cruel’ and ‘nasty’ to go to such lengths to keep people off his lawn.
“They’re just kids walking home from school. There’s no need for this,” one person writes.
Another agrees: “What happened to human decency? There’s no need to do this to anyone. They’re just children.”
“In my country we have an amazing invention called a ‘fence,’” a third writes.
Others, however, are in stark disagreement, with one person writing: “You’re all mad for no reason. This is their yard. Walking on it can kill the grass and there are sidewalks for a reason.”
Another viewer says: “I love this level of pettiness. It’s your lawn, so do as you wish.”
A third writes: “They deserve it. It is not a right of way, it is someone’s property. Have a bit of respect.”
Someone else agrees: “I was raised to never walk on people’s lawns. How are these kids just casually doing that?”
The video that’s causing a stir shows strangers cutting across a homeowner’s lawn. However, each time someone does, they get a shock when a sprinkler activates and soaks them as a punishment for trespassing.
In a second post, the TikToker explains that an alarm also sounds at the same time as the sprinkler goes off – warning people not to walk on his grass.
Lyons’ TikToks have since been deleted after racking up millions of views and comments – but the videos can still be viewed as part of a duet on the platform.
