When you picture a home from a fairy tale or storybook, what do you imagine? It would probably look something like this!
It definitely looks a bit out of the ordinary, and it certainly doesn’t look big either. Tiny housing actually has been gaining popularity over the past few years, and when you see some of the amazing compact interiors and designs, it’s not so hard to understand why.
Meet Bruce Winkler, the man who built this amazing tiny storybook home in a beautiful and calm spot by the water.
Bruce always wanted to build his own home, but he also knew that he really didn’t want to have a standard home like everyone else.
One day, he came across images of an absolutely beautiful treehouse that you could live in online, and he just needed to do something similar.
He was so inspired by the treehouse pictures he saw online that he decided to get in touch with the builders. He told them all about his love for their design and asked them for some assistance.
Bruce wanted to build his own storybook cottage home, and could definitely use a bit of help and input.
The team of Lindcroft Custom Dwellings, a two-person company consisting of Tim Lindberg and Daniel Huscroft, was definitely intrigued and wanted to help Bruce build his dream home by the sea.
Tim and Daniel actually fell in love with the location too, and they just knew that with the right amount of effort, time, and materials, they could build something amazing together.
The end result is nothing short of that, it seems like it comes straight out of a fairytale and looks absolutely magnificent.
The building is beautiful, both in its main structure and the details. You’ll immediately notice the wavy layout of the roof, which must’ve been a real pain to actually incorporate into a design, but it was definitely worth it.
And when you take a look inside, you can’t help but be perplexed by the cozy and quite modern interior.
Even though the tiny size might not suggest it, the inside of the home is actually surprisingly comfortable.
For example, cooking in this kitchen is practically no compromises, although Bruce did save some space by choosing not to include an oven.
There’s also plenty of cupboards and storage space, and you can easily make your meals here.
The living room right next to it is just as cozy, and the fireplace and chimney really add that charming touch.
It’s attention-grabbing for sure, and also very useful for colder periods.
Natural light is preserved thanks to large windows next to the fireplace, and the view is absolutely amazing.
Bruce sees this view every single day, and it’s just spectacular.
On the first floor, Bruce installed the bathroom. Even though you might not expect it from the outside, it has all the necessities just as you’d expect from a normal home.
The staircase also leads to a bedroom loft at the top, and while it has been built directly under the roof, there’s still room for a queen-sized bed and a bed-side table.
Inside and out, this storybook cottage home is truly a masterpiece.
Bruce even says that the house gets a lot of attention from the people on the water – it’s not rare for him to see boats at a standstill just so people can stare at his house!
Luckily, the man doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he believes his home is truly a work of art and feels flattered about it.
If you’d like to see this home for yourself, you can check it out on the shoreline of Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
