Singer Jon Bon Jovi has been widely praised for saving a woman’s life after talking her away from the ledge of a bridge in Nashville, Tennessee.
Warning: the following contains a discussion of s**cide.
A video shows a woman gripping a bridge railing while passersby move along without intervention.
The ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ singer then steps in after noticing the situation.
People are reacting on social media after watching the footage, with one person writing: “An awesome dude doing awesome stuff. Good on him and hopefully the person he talked down is getting the help they need.”
Another adds: “I hope this woman gets the support, love, and understanding she needs to heal. Thank goodness for angels here on Earth.”
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department released footage capturing the incident, alongside a statement.
It read (via the BBC): “A shout out to Bon Jovi and his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge [on] Tuesday night.
“Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety.”
While Police Chief John Drake later commented: “It takes all of us to help keep each other safe.”
The footage shows Bon Jovi, accompanied by another individual, greeting the woman with a wave before leaning on the railing nearby to speak with her.
Although no audio accompanies the footage, the singer’s body language shows his earnest attempt to engage and reassure her.
At one point, Bon Jovi switches to the woman’s other side, gently supporting her arm as they speak.
Ultimately, the singer and his companion manage to guide the woman back to safety and later, Bon Jovi offers her a comforting hug.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department told CNN the woman was taken to hospital for treatment and evaluation.
The outlet also reports that Bon Jovi was filming a music video on the bridge when the incident occurred.
