Meghan Markle has issued a statement amid her professional ‘separation’ from Prince Harry.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have frequently been at the center of public and media attention despite their move to California and distancing themselves from royal life.
Markle and Prince Harry stepped down as senior royals in 2020 yet a year later, found themselves in the headlines following their shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey.
In the interview, Prince Harry voiced his disappointment in his family’s silence regarding the ‘colonial undertones’ in the media’s coverage of Markle.
He pointed out that female MPs had called out the unfair treatment while his family had refrained from doing so.
The royal couple has also been vocal about the U.K media’s alleged bigotry, accusing it of fostering a toxic culture of ‘control and fear.’
Kensington Palace issued a statement on Prince Harry’s behalf in 2016, criticizing the media for racial biases and invasive coverage of Markle.
The prince’s concerns for Markle’s safety and frustration over his inability to protect her were clear in his condemnation of the press.
However, this public stance is said to have caused tension with King Charles and Prince William, who reportedly felt it cast them in a negative light for not defending their spouses similarly.
In his memoir, ‘Spare,’ Prince Harry claimed that this statement caused friction within the family.
And now, Markle has had a professional ‘separation’ from her husband.
The couple has long been a united team, however, as they’ve recently been pursuing individual projects, it’s sparked rumors of a shift in their working relationship, reports the Mirror.
Markle and Prince Harry have admitted that they’re at a ‘crossroads’ in their professional endeavors.
The duchess once likened their relationship to ‘salt and pepper,’ inseparable yet serving distinct purposes.
However, recent events suggest the pair may be pursuing separate goals, reflecting this metaphor in practice.
As Markle attended a Thanksgiving event hosted by the Southern California Welcome Project in collaboration with their Archewell Foundation, Prince Harry was engaged in commitments for the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada.
At the Southern California event, the duchess expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with women who had resettled in the United States from Afghanistan.
Markle issued a heartfelt statement highlighting the evening’s focus on gratitude and resilience.
She said: “This initiative, led by the partner organization Mina’s List, has spent the past year building community through storytelling and creating a safe space for women who have resettled in the U.S. from Afghanistan. The evening included a shared meal that encouraged open conversation centered on gratitude and resilience.”
The Duchess expressed her deep appreciation to the attendees for sharing their personal stories and cultural experiences, underscoring her excitement for future gatherings.
As Markle hosted in California, Prince Harry was in Canada attending events related to the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014.
The duke and duchess made a recent appearance together on Veteran’s Day, honoring service members from the U.S. and the U.K., showcasing their commitment to shared causes despite pursuing separate ventures.
The couple is expected to reunite when attending the Invictus Games in February 2025, where it’s speculated their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, may also make a rare appearance.
Although Markle and Prince Harry appear to be exploring new directions in their professional lives, their shared goals and public appearances suggest their commitment to their family and causes remains strong.
