The first thing I noticed was the fabric swatches.

“It makes perfect sense,” she said. “Derek and I need space. Three bedrooms, great location, good schools close by. It’s ideal for us. For eventually starting a family.”
“Eventually,” Mom echoed, already warm at the thought. “And only twenty minutes from us for babysitting.”
I watched them redesign my life from the inside while standing in my own kitchen. Derek had spread paint chips across my dining table.
