My Dad Praised My Sister for “Earning Everything on Her Own” Then I Told Him I’d Stop Sending the $6,000 Monthly Payments

“I signed the fake partnership papers,” Khloe said. “Tyler told me he’d double the money in six months. I believed him.”

She swallowed.

“When the money ran out, I forged my father’s signature on a loan against my parents’ house. I opened a credit card in my father’s name and used it to pay for Tyler’s car. And his hotel rooms.”

She looked down at her hands.

“And every month, when my brother sent me six thousand dollars for my parents’ mortgage, I texted him that it was handled. And then I gave it to Tyler. My parents never saw any of it.”

Her words echoed off the courtroom walls. Soft. Final.

My father lowered his head. His shoulders shook once before he steadied himself.

My mother pressed her hand over her mouth.

I just sat there with my chest hollow.

I wasn’t angry anymore. I was just tired of lies pretending to sound like love.

Tyler shot up out of his chair. He pointed at the witness stand.

“She’s lying! She begged me to help hide her debts! I did all of it for her!”

His lawyer grabbed his arm and pulled him back down.

The prosecutor didn’t even look up. She just pressed a button.

Tyler’s voicemail to his wife came through the courtroom speakers.

I’ve got a girl in Minnesota whose brother is basically an ATM. If it all goes south, I’ll just say it was his investment.

The color drained right out of Tyler’s face.

The jury was out for less than two hours.

Guilty on all counts. Wire fraud. Theft by swindle. Identity theft.

Because of his prior federal conviction, the judge didn’t give him much mercy.

“Mr. Morgan,” the judge said, “you’re sentenced to six years in state prison. With no possibility of parole for the first three.”

Nobody clapped. There was nothing to celebrate.

Khloe let out a shaky breath. It sounded like relief and regret at the same time.

As the guards cuffed him, Tyler turned his head toward her.

“You weren’t my only mistake,” he said quietly. “But you were the one I actually loved.”

Khloe looked away.

Tears welled up in her eyes. But they never fell.
